From May 1-3, 2011, members of the Canadian Section of the Canada-United States Inter-Parliamentary Group (IPG) attended the annual spring meeting of the Canadian/American Border Trade Alliance (BTA) in Ottawa. Senator Marie-P. Poulin, Vice-Chair attended the meeting, and Mr. Gord Brown, M.P., Co-Chair of the IPG was an invited speaker.

From June 29-July 1, 2011, Mr. Gord Brown, M.P., Co-Chair of the Canada-United States Inter-Parliamentary Group (IPG) represented the Canadian Section of the IPG at the 2011 annual meeting of the Western Governors’ Association (WGA) in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Eight U.S. Governors and the Premier of British Columbia attended the meeting, as did Canada’s Ambassador to the United States.

The purpose of the visit was to increase cooperation, dialogue and exchanges between Canada and the Republic of Finland. A wide range of topics were discussed by the delegation at the meetings with Canadian parliamentarians including international cooperation and trade, environmental issues, immigration, and the upcoming Finnish presidency of the European Union in the latter half of 2006.

The webinar, which was attended by over 80 participants, was intended as an initial step in holding parliaments to account for the implementation of the IPU resolution, “Achieving universal health coverage by 2030: The role of parliaments in ensuring the right to health,” adopted at the 141st Assembly in October 2019.
