Both Botswana and Zambia are members of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC). The former is a body of the African Union, while the latter is a 15-member regional economic community which aims to help the countries in the Southern African region harmonize their political and socio-economic policies.

From October 10 to 14, 2006, the Speaker of the House of Commons, the Honourable Peter Milliken, led a parliamentary delegation composed of Mr. Jim Abbott, M.P., the Honourable Larry Bagnell, P.C., M.P., Mr. Patrick Kennedy, Chief of Staff of the Speaker and Mr. Tõnu Onu, Secretary to the delegation.

Over the three-day series, Members of Parliament from across the Commonwealth were invited to give presentations. Ms. Yasmin Ratansi, MP, Chair of the Canadian Branch of the CPA, gave a presentation on June 21, 2021. Her presentation focused the roles and responsibilities of standing committees in both chambers of the Parliaments of Canada.

On 13 and 14 October 2021, the Canadian Branch of the Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie (APF), represented by Marie-France Lalonde, Member of Parliament, participated in “ Le parlementarisme féminin en France et au Québec : où en sommes-nous?”, a symposium about women in parliament in France and Quebec hosted by the Commission de la mémoire franco-québécoise.

From July 25-28 2010, Mr. Brian Masse, M.P., Vice-Chair of the Canada-US Inter-Parliamentary Group (IPG), led a delegation to the annual legislative summit of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) in Louisville, Kentucky. Other members of the delegation were the Honourable Senator Jim Munson, Mr. Dean Del Mastro, M.P. and Mr. Mervin Tweed, M.P.
