During the meeting, Canadian delegates were able to hear from parliamentarians from Bangladesh, Bahrain, the Philippines, Syria, Tanzania, Turkey, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Azerbaijan, Fiji, Nicaragua, Benin, Madagascar and Ecuador, and from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean.

1. Every Parliament constituted in conformity with the laws of a sovereign State whose population it represents and on whose territory it functions may request affiliation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union. A National Group representing any such Parliament and which is already affiliated at the time of the approval of this Article 2 may choose to remain a Member of the Union.

Pursuant to the decision of the 32nd General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on 18-24 September 2011, and in accordance with the Statutes of AIPA, the 33rd AIPA General Assembly was held in Lombok, Indonesia, on 16-22 September 2012 under the theme, “Strengthening the Parliamentary Roles towards ASEAN Community 2015”.
