High Commissioner Charrette provided RUUK members with a detailed overview of current issues of importance to the United Kingdom (U.K.) including Brexit, the COVID-19 pandemic and the relationships between Westminster and the devolved administrations in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Participants also highlighted the aggravating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on gender inequalities as well as the increased risk faced by women who are disproportionately represented in vulnerable and high-risk occupations and unpaid work.

The Committee also addressed various topics, including the issue of digital technology and fake news, and the impact of fake news on parliamentarians’ work. It also discussed the subjects of its next reports and the APF’s future Avis on the Summit of heads of state of the Francophonie.

A strategy needs to be in place to minimize the impact of any future crisis. This calls for a more focused approach in designing projects and development of more sound financing models involving the public and private sector.
