The Rapporteur of the working group went over his discussions with the Boutros-Ghali Peacekeeping Observatory, the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the French Ministry for the Armed Forces. He gave an overview of the many peacekeeping missions around the world, several of them in francophone regions.

The High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) is the United Nations hub for the global review of progress toward the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Senator Forest proposed that a new project be developed on the impact of climate change on island, coastal and waterfront territories in francophone areas. The Committee approved this proposal. The Committee also discussed the economic situation in La Francophonie.

Three broad themes were listed on the meeting agenda: the impact of the United Kingdom’s departure from the European Union, trade, and the UK’s renewed approach to foreign policy. Discussion was frank and informative, and both delegations agreed that the future held many opportunities for deepening the relationship between the two countries.
