The Honourable Noël A. Kinsella, Speaker of the Senate, and a Parliamentary Delegation visited the Federal Republic of Germany, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the State of Qatar, from February 17-24, 2012.

The event, held ahead of the 2024 NATO Summit of Allied Heads of State and Government, allowed participants to share their parliaments’ views on NATO’s key priorities, including “support for Ukraine, strengthened deterrence and defence and addressing the growing authoritarian threat”.

She also noted that the Government of Canada recently launched a “Feminist Response and Recovery Fund” to support women and girls impacted by this crisis. For her part, Ms. Khalid explained that the pandemic raises questions of physical and financial security for women.

The Speakers serve as hosts to their foreign counterparts on visit to Canada, meet with ambassadors and other foreign dignitaries, as well as host parliamentary conferences in Canada and various events in Ottawa.
