The Chair, Senator Tardif explained that a review of the activities, and particularly the objectives and anticipated results, of the 13 parliamentary associations formally recognized and funded by the Canadian Parliament was under way in order to reduce costs.

As well, she underscored the role that the Canadian parliament is playing in considering options to expand Canada’s health system to include a national pharmacare program and in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr. Spengemann acknowledged that, while Canada has a high global ranking regarding UHC, the system is not perfect.

Members of the Executive Committee were updated on the progress made towards the development of the IPU Strategy 2022–2026. They also discussed issues related to future IPU events (such as the Fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament and the 143rd Assembly) and internal matters related to the organization’s governance.
