On 28 and 29 April 2021, a delegation from the Canadian Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (UIPU) comprising Ms. Iqra Khalid, MP, Ms. Lindsay Mathyssen, MP, and Ms. Michelle Rempel Garner, MP attended the Seventh Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians.

Karen McCrimmon, MP and President of the Canadian Section, participated in this virtual meeting, during which the Assembly’s response to the COVID 19 pandemic and its impact on the NATO PA’s activities for 2020 were discussed.

The meeting was co-chaired by RUUK chair, the Honourable John McKay, P.C., M.P. and CPA UK chair, Ian Liddell-Grainger, MP. The co-chairs welcomed delegates with opening remarks focusing on the historic bonds and enduring friendship between the countries before formally opening the meeting.

MP Cheryl Gallant attended this meeting of the Political Committee. Two reports were studied in depth at the meeting: the general report entitled “The Rise of China: Implications for Global and Euro-Atlantic Security” and the special report entitled “COVID-19 and Transatlantic Security.”
