The conference began with opening remarks from the Honourable Amina Gerba, Senator, and Brenda Shanahan, MP— Co-chairs of the Association—along with Vice-Chair and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Rob Oliphant.

The meeting was co-chaired by RUUK chair, the Honourable John McKay, P.C., M.P. and CPA UK chair, Ian Liddell-Grainger, MP. MP Francis Drouin, President of the Canadian Branch and First Vice-President of the APF, chaired the meeting on behalf of the APF’s President. The members of the permanent delegation discussed the political situations in Armenia, Lebanon and Mali.

Kristina Michaud, MP and rapporteur for the APF’s Network of Young Parliamentarians, represented the Canadian Branch at this event, which brought together 45 participants from various countries. Ms. Michaud discussed the role of young APF members in politics and their contributions.

Members of the Canadian Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union UIPU) participated, two of whom, Rachel Blaney, MP and Sven Spengemann, MP were featured presenters together with Dr. Pechdau Tohmeena from Thailand’s House of Representatives and David Clarke from the World Health Organization. Senator Mohamed-Iqbal Ravalia also attended.

The meeting was co-chaired by RUUK chair, the Honourable John McKay, P.C., M.P. and CPA UK chair, Ian Liddell-Grainger, MP. The co-chairs welcomed delegates with opening remarks focusing on the historic bonds and enduring friendship between the countries before formally opening the meeting.
