From September 24 to 28, 2007, at the invitation of the Honourable Noël A. Kinsella, Speaker of the Senate, the Right Honourable the Baroness Hayman, Lord Speaker of the House of Lords of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, visited Ottawa, Victoria and Vancouver.

Speaker D’Souza hosted a lunch for the delegation in the former residence of the Lord Chancellor. The informal conversation covered a number of topics including security and parliamentary privilege.

His Excellency Howard Drake OBE, High Commissioner of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Canada, also accompanied the Lord Speaker during the visit.

The purpose of the visit was to provide Canadian parliamentarians with the opportunity to discuss a variety of issues of common interest to both the Canadian Parliament and Westminster. Among the topics discussed were: bilateral issues on trade including the Doha Round of Negotiations and agricultural subsidies; Anglo-Canadian cooperation in Afghanistan; current status of the Northern Ireland ...

The Lord Speaker also attended the official installation ceremony of the 29th Governor General of Canada, Ms. Julie Payette. He had several site visits focusing on the renovation and modernisation of the parliamentary precinct.

From April 11 to 21, 2022, the Speaker of the Senate, the Honourable George J. Furey, Q.C., led parliamentary delegations to the Hellenic Republic and to the United Kingdom.
