Presenters emphasized the gendered treatment of parliamentarians and other public figures online, noting that women face a higher degree of personal abuse and aggressive behaviour. As many presenters observed, beyond negatively impacting the lives of those who are targeted, online harassment undermines democracy and limits free speech by discouraging women and girls from being politically active.

They discussed the outcome of the May 2022 EU-Canada Joint Ministerial Committee meeting; the coverage of space-related procurement by the Canadian Space Agency under the Canada-European Union Comprehensive and Economic Trade Agreement; Canada and the EU’s response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine; and the upcoming Canada-EU interparliamentary meeting this fall.

The Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie (APF) Network of Women Parliamentarians was formed in 2002 to promote greater participation of women in political, economic, social and cultural life both at the national level and across the francophone world.

On 14 April 2021, the Hon. Salma Ataullahjan, Senator, the Hon. Kim Pate, Senator, Ms. Iqra Khalid, MP, and Ms. Yasmin Ratansi, MP, attended a meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) on violence against women and girls.

The Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie brings together 90 parliaments and branches to discuss topics of interest for the Francophonie. The meeting is informal and is intended to inform the presidents of various topics of interest for the branches.

It also met with Francophone organizations at the Maison de la Francophonie de Vancouver and with the Cercle des dirigeants français . The 48 th Annual Meeting provided an opportunity to develop and strengthen the ties between Canadian and French parliamentarians and to exchange on topics of common interest.

From May 7-10, 2010, Senator Janis Johnson, Co-Chair, and Mr. Gord Brown, M.P., Co-Chair, led a delegation of Senators and Members of the House of Commons (see attached list) to the 51st Annual Meeting of the Canada-United States Inter-Parliamentary Group in New Orleans, Louisiana.
