On April 7, 2021, the Hon. Salma Ataullahjan, Senator, the Hon. Kim Pate, Senator, Ms. Iqra Khalid, MP, and Ms. Yasmin Ratansi, MP, attended a meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) on women’s economic empowerment during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

On 14 April 2021, the Hon. Salma Ataullahjan, Senator, the Hon. Kim Pate, Senator, Ms. Iqra Khalid, MP, and Ms. Yasmin Ratansi, MP, attended a meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) on violence against women and girls.

On April 16th, 2020, Senator Rosa Galvez – Vice-Chair of the Canadian Section of ParlAmericas and Vice-President (North America) of ParlAmericas' Parliamentary Network on Climate Change – participated in ParlAmericas’ first meeting held since the COVID-19 pandemic was declared in March 2020.

MPs Karen McCrimmon and John McKay, along with Senator Pierre Dalphond, participated in this webinar at the beginning of the pandemic. This initiative was in response to the new reality of being unable to meet in person or travel to hold committee meetings and other activities normally scheduled throughout the year.

The meeting was held in British Columbia (B.C.). The French delegation was led by National Assembly Member Christopher Weissberg, Chair of the French Branch of the Association, and Senator Yan Chantrel, Chair of the France–Canada Friendship Group in the Senate.

The Honourable Kim Pate, Senator, joined the discussion, asking how international poverty reduction efforts can be made relevant to domestic reform initiatives in high-income countries like Canada and whether there were studies which estimated the cost of poverty on economies around the world.

Senator Dennis Dawson then went on to present his report on the freedom of the press in francophone countries and suggested creating a new francophone organization dedicated to the freedom of the press.
