The Honourable Pierre-Hugues Boisvenu, Senator, and Brenda Shanahan, MP, attended this webinar, intended to train parliamentarians who recently joined the association and its Executive Committee.

The Hon. Kim Pate, Senator, Ms. Iqra Khalid, MP, Ms. Yasmin Ratansi, MP, and Ms. Lindsay Mathyssen, MP, also attended the meeting, which was moderated by Ms. Sandra Pepera of the National Democratic Institute.

The French delegation was led by National Assembly Member Christopher Weissberg, Chair of the French Branch of the Association, and Senator Yan Chantrel, Chair of the France–Canada Friendship Group in the Senate.

During this workshop, panellists explored the various benefits and challenges of social media in different contexts, including governance and legislating. Associations promote the country’s interests abroad on a continuing basis and are composed of both members of the Senate and of the House of Commons. There are 8 Multilateral Associations and 5 Bilateral Associations.

Participants were given a general introduction to IHL and its history. The Honourable Marilou McPhedran, Senator, gave a presentation on the roles and responsibilities of parliamentarians in implementing and upholding IHL at the domestic and international levels. She provided several examples from the Parliament of Canada’s perspective.
