The Joint Interparliamentary Council met

1.Approval of Minutes
On motion of Mr. Benoit, the minutes of the
meeting of February 9, 2011 were approved.
2.Association Budgets – Presentations by
Association Chairs/Co-Chairs
Hon. Andrée Champagne, Senator, Chair
of the Canadian Branch of the Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie
(APF), presented the work and planned activities of the association, as well as
their related budget request for the 2011-2012 fiscal year, and with the
Association Secretary, François Michaud, answered questions from members of the
JIC.
Russ Hiebert, MP, Chair of the Commonwealth
Parliamentary Association (CPA), presented the work and planned activities of
the association, as well as their related budget request for the 2011-2012
fiscal year, and answered questions from members of the JIC.
Hon. Joseph Day, Senator, and Daryl Kramp,
MP, Co-Chairs of the Canada-China Legislative Association, presented the work
and planned activities of the association, as well as their related budget
request for the 2011-2012 fiscal year, and answered questions from members of
the JIC.
Hon. Raynell Andreychuk, Senator, and
Hon. Mauril Bélanger, MP, Co-Chairs of the Canada-Africa Parliamentary
Association, presented the work and planned activities of the association, as
well as their related budget request for the 2010‑2011 fiscal year, and
questions from members of the JIC.
Devinder Shory, MP, Vice-Chair of the
Canada-United Kingdom Inter-Parliamentary Association, presented the work and
planned activities of the association, as well as their related budget request
for the 2011-2012 fiscal year, and answered questions from members of the JIC.
Randy Hoback, MP, Chair of the Canadian
Section of the Inter-Parliamentary Forum of the Americas (FIPA), presented the
work and planned activities of the association, as well as their related budget
request for the 2011-2012 fiscal year, and answered questions from members of
the JIC.
3.Other Business
At the invitation of the Chair, the Clerk
shared with the Council a supplementary budget request addressed to the JIC
from the Canadian Branch of the Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie
(APF) requesting additional funding related to the costs of an upcoming seminar
taking place in Burkina Faso on the subject of legislation targeting violence
against girls and women for the parliamentary of West and Central African
countries.
After discussion, on motion of Mr. Proulx,
it was agreed, that the Canadian Branch of APF be allotted sufficient funds for
the Senator to participate in the upcoming seminar.
At 5:35 p.m., the Council adjourned to the
call of the Co-Chairs.
