The Presidents explained that since the last general election of 2010, there are 41 Members of Parliament directly elected by the population and 31 Senators, 16 appointed on the advice of the Prime Minister, nine are appointed by the President and six appointed by the President on the advice of the Leader of the Opposition.

The Co-chairs provided an overview of the composition of the Canadian Parliament. They related Canada’s experience in ensuring regional economic wealth and offered the view that Canada could also share knowledge about environment and energy questions.

The Canadian delegation was led by Member of Parliament Marie-France Lalonde, Chair of the Canadian branch of the Association, and consisted of Senator René Cormier, Association’s Vice-Chair, as well as Members of Parliament Lena Metlege Diab, Fayçal El-Khoury, Laila Goodridge, Denis Trudel and Dominique Vien.
