1) Pursuant to the decision of the 33rd General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) held in Lombok, Indonesia, on 16-22 September 2012, and in accordance with the Statutes of AIPA, the 34th General Assembly was held in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam, on 17-23 September 2013 under the theme, “The Role of AIPA in Realising the ASEAN Community”.

They also discussed issues related to future IPU events (such as the Fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament and the 143rd Assembly) and internal matters related to the organization’s governance.

In her opening remarks, Senator Ataullahjan noted that the theme of the session was of the utmost importance since crises are never gender neutral and often exacerbate existing inequalities.

This committee is composed of one representative from each province and territory and one from the federal Parliament. A chair oversees its activities and represents Canada on the CWP international steering committee.
