The main objective of the visit was to discuss security of the parliamentary precinct, an issue of common interest to both the Parliament of Canada and the Palace of Westminster.

From November 7 to 11, the Speaker of the House of Commons, the Honourable Anthony Rota, M.P., led a parliamentary delegation on a visit to the United Kingdom, where they visited both London, England and Edinburgh, Scotland.

Le colloque, d’une durée de deux semaines, s’est déroulé surtout à Westminster Palace. Les participants on cependant pu faire quelques excursions à Londres et une visite à Canterbury.

From February 19 to 22, 2024, the Speaker of the Senate, the Honourable Raymonde Gagné, led a parliamentary delegation to the United Kingdom and Ireland. The delegation consisted of the Honourable Jane Cordy, Senator, the Honourable Percy Mockler, Senator, and the Honourable Colin Deacon, Senator.

The purpose of the visit to the Palace of Westminster was to strengthen relations between the Parliament of Canada and the Palace. Speaker Scheer had the opportunity to discuss matters relating to parliamentary governance and to deliberate recent procedural and administrative changes at the House of Commons.

Both Speakers also interact on a regular basis with the diplomatic corps to maintain positive relations with parliaments around the world. The Speakers also travel abroad on behalf of the Canadian Parliament and serve as hosts to other foreign Speakers when they visit Canada.

The Metropolitan Police’s Palace of Westminster Division employs 500 persons, provides security throughout the Parliamentary estate and possesses its own Investigation and Intelligence unit.

A delegation of the Canada-UK Inter-Parliamentary Association visited Northern Ireland and Westminster, London, United Kingdom from March 16-24, 2012. Associations promote the country’s interests abroad on a continuing basis and are composed of both members of the Senate and of the House of Commons. There are 8 Multilateral Associations and 5 Bilateral Associations.
