From April 14 to 21, 2007, the Honourable David Hawker, M.P., Speaker of the House of Representatives of Australia, led a parliamentary delegation to Vancouver, Whistler, Victoria, Ottawa and Niagara Falls at the invitation of the Speaker of the House of Commons, the Honourable Peter Milliken.

On December 9 and 10, 2014, Mr. Jacques Chagnon, M.N.A., President of the National Assembly of Quebec, visited Ottawa at the invitation of the Honourable Pierre Claude Nolin, Speaker of the Senate, and the Honourable Andrew Scheer, Speaker of the House of Commons. He was accompanied by Lise Moreau, his Chief of Staff, and Karine Gaudreault, Interparliamentary and International Relations Advisor.

Ms. McPherson was a featured panellist. In her remarks, she noted that Canada has made progress in increasing women’s political participation, particularly in terms of nearly achieving a critical mass of women parliamentarians in the House of Commons (29.5%) and gender parity in the Senate (49.5%). The House of Commons agreed at that time to extend the mission until 2011, on the condition that NATO provides reinforcements. Two opposition parties, the New Democratic Party and the Bloc Québécois, have opposed the mission from the outset.

The delegation was led by Association president the Hon. Lorna Milne, Senator, and included from the Senate the Hon. Yoine Goldstein and from the House of Commons Mr. Scott Simms, Mr. Brian Storseth, and Mr. David Tilson.
