From July 5 to July 9, 2024, the Honourable Raymonde Gagné, Speaker of the Senate, and the Honourable Greg Fergus, P.C., M.P., Speaker of the House of Commons, participated in the 49th Annual Session of the Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie (APF) in Montreal, Canada.

It should be noted that the whips’ forum also included representatives of the parties. The South African representatives welcomed the detailed explanations of the independent, non-partisan role of the Speaker of the House of Commons, a traditionally neutral and balanced position, and the way the Speaker is elected.
