Report of the Canadian Parliamentary Delegation respecting its participation at the meeting of the Political Committee of the Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie (APF) Canadian Branch of the Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie (APF) Liège, Belgium May 1-5, 2011

The meetings took place in the presence of members of the Offices of the two Chambers, the presidents of the parliamentary blocks, the chairs of the commissions, the members of the bicameral commission responsible for coordinating international aid to Parliament, the secretaries general and the Chiefs of Staff of the two Chambers.

This had resulted in the IPU Assembly being placed in the hands of the Speaker of the host Parliament. A copy of the correspondence between the Chair and President Casini on this matter had been circulated, expressing the concerns of the 12+ group.

The IPU supports the efforts of the United Nations, whose objectives it shares, and works in close cooperation with it. It also cooperates with regional inter-parliamentary organizations, as well as with international intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations which are motivated by the same ideals.
