As the Vice-Chair of the Canada-France
Interparliamentary Association (CFIA) and at the invitation of Canada’s
Ambassador to France, His Excellency Lawrence Cannon, Senator Michel Rivard
attended the CFIA’s 50th anniversary celebrations. The celebrations were a
highlight of the traditional July 1 reception hosted by the Embassy of Canada
in France.
July 1, 2015
In Paris, Senator Rivard attended the July 1
celebrations at the Ambassador’s official residence. Senator Rivard’s
engagements began near noon and continued throughout the day. Apart from his
speeches on behalf of Senate Speaker Leo Housakos and CFIA Chair Senator
Claudette Tardif, the senator was able to greet and speak with many French
parliamentarians, policy makers and economic stakeholders. His attendance
underscored the importance Canada and France attach to interparliamentary
relations between the two countries.
More than 200 guests attended the celebrations,
including many of the Embassy’s key French contacts, such as Ms. Catherine
Coutelle, Chair of the CFIA French Group and Mr. Claude Bartolone,
President of the French National Assembly.
The celebrations hosted by the Embassy of Canada
in France bringing together French and Canadian parliamentarians and senior
officials and the Embassy’s unwavering support of the CFIA’s work contribute
immensely to maintaining the current dialogue between the two countries on
issues of common interest. This dialogue is vital because it encourages and
supports interparliamentary and intergovernmental cooperation between Canada
and France.
Respectfully submitted,
Senator Claudette Tardif
Chair, Canada-France
Interparliamentary Association
