ParlAmericas’ Canadian Section celebrates Latin American Heritage Month

As Latin American Heritage Month draws to a close, members of the Canadian Section of ParlAmericas and the diplomatic community representing the countries of Latin America will meet virtually to celebrate the contributions that members of Latin American communities have made to Canada.

Mr. Marc G. Serré, M.P., Chair of ParlAmericas’ Canadian Section, will host the meeting alongside Her Excellency Sofia Lastenia Cerrato Rodriguez, Ambassador of the Republic of Honduras to Canada and Dean of the Latin America Group of Ambassadors.

"People of Latin American heritage have made significant contributions to Canadian public, economic and cultural life, and I am among those who hope that they will continue to do so well into the future," commented Mr. Serré. "As Chair of the Canadian Section of ParlAmericas, I am privileged to be part of a group focused on strengthening the ties between Canada and the countries of Latin America."

Mr. Serré continued: "During this global pandemic, it is particularly important to reinforce the ties we share with each other, both as individuals and as representatives of our respective countries. In this spirit, I am delighted to have the opportunity to spend time today with representatives from across the hemisphere, and to recognize both the role that Latin Americans have played in strengthening Canada and the deep connections that link us.

Founded in 2001 in Ottawa, ParlAmericas is the only interparliamentary institution with its International Secretariat headquartered in Canada. The Canadian Section of ParlAmericas works closely with the Secretariat to advance parliamentary diplomacy and political dialogue throughout the Americas and the Caribbean.
