43rd INTERPARLIAMENTARY MEETING BETWEEN THE CANADA-EUROPE PARLIAMENTARY ASSOCIATION AND THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT’S DELEGATION FOR RELATIONS WITH CANADA

The Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association (CAEU) and the European Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with Canada held their 43rd Interparliamentary Meeting on 27 and 28 October 2025 in Ottawa. During the meeting, they adopted the following statement:

EXPLORING NEW PARTNERSHIPS IN TRANSATLANTIC COOPERATION

We, the Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association and the European Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with Canada, gathered for our 43rd Interparliamentary Meeting (IPM) on 27 and 28 October 2025 in Ottawa, Canada.

Over the course of the 43rd IPM, we exchanged views on matters of common interest and concern, such as security and defence cooperation, trade and economic relations, and digital technologies.

Our conversations were informed by the 20th Canada–European Union (EU) summit held in Brussels, Belgium, in June 2025, during which both sides committed to deepen their partnership by agreeing on a New EU–Canada Strategic Partnership of the Future and a Security and Defence Partnership, both of which are rooted in shared values and the rules-based international order.

The Canada–EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement and the Strategic Partnership Agreement continue to serve as a strong foundation for our cooperation. Encouraged by the successes of both agreements and acknowledging the growing challenges to the international trade order, we reiterated our desire to seeing the agreements fully enter into force.

Shared security challenges, including the Russian Federation’s ongoing illegal war of aggression against Ukraine, also shaped our exchanges on security and defence cooperation and energy security. As expressed in the Security and Defence Partnership, “our security is interconnected and interdependent.”

Finally, we look forward to continuing our substantive discussions on such issues as the industrial cooperation in the security and defence sector, the governance of artificial intelligence and the development of resilient and diversified energy supply chains.
