The Canadian Branch of the Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie announces 2023 Ordre de la Pléiade recipients

The Canadian Branch of the Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie (APF) is proud to announce the new members of the Ordre de la Pléiade for 2023.

The recipients of the Ordre de la Pléiade, recognized as having served the ideals of La Francophonie, are:

  • The Honourable Dennis Dawson, former Senator, former Member of Parliament, former executive member of the Canadian Branch of the APF – Rank of Commandeur
  • Mr. Robert Aubin, former Member of Parliament, former executive member of the Canadian Branch of the APF, former Chair of the APF Parliamentary Affairs Committee – Rank of Officier
  • Mr. Gaston Bernier, Librarian – Rank of Chevalier
  • Ms. Sylvie Boucher, former Member of Parliament, former executive member of the Canadian Branch of the APF – Rank of Chevalier
  • Ms. Nicole Buteau, President, London French Day Care Centre and Home Child Care Agency – Rank of Chevalier
  • Mr. Mathieu Fleury, former City of Ottawa Councillor – Rank of Chevalier
  • Ms. Louise Lacoursière, Novelist and Biographer – Rank of Chevalier

“The Canadian Branch of the Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie is immensely proud to announce the recipients of the Ordre de la Pléiade for 2023. After a three-year hiatus because of the pandemic, it is highly gratifying to again recognize the contributions and accomplishments of individuals who have stood out in the Canadian Francophonie. Congratulations to all of them,” said Francis Drouin, M.P., President of the APF and Chair of the Canadian Branch of the APF.

Open to citizens of all nations, the Pléiade recognizes the exceptional merit of individuals who have distinguished themselves in the pursuit of the ideals of the APF and the Francophonie. The five ranks of the Ordre de la Pléiade are Chevalier, Officier, Commandeur, Grand Officier and Grand-Croix.

The APF is the consultative assembly of the Francophonie and brings together parliamentarians from 91 parliaments or inter-parliamentary organizations across five continents. It aims to promote and protect the global influence of the French language and multilingualism, democracy and peace, respect for human rights and gender equality.
