Visit to Canada by His Excellency Claude Wiseler, President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and a parliamentary delegation

From June 1 to 4, 2026, His Excellency Claude Wiseler, President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, led a parliamentary delegation on an official visit to Ottawa and Quebec City at the invitation of the Honorable Raymonde Gagné, C.M., O.M., Speaker of the Senate, and the Honourable Francis Scarpaleggia, M.P., Speaker of the House of Commons.

President Wiseler was accompanied by Mars Di Bartolomeo, Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg; Laurent Zeimet, Leader of the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV); Taina Bofferding, Leader of the Luxembourg Socialist Workers’ Party (LSAP); Fred Keup, Leader of the “Alternativ Demokratesch Reformpartei” (ADR) party; Diane Adehm, Member of the Bureau of the Chamber of Deputies; and Gusty Graas, Chair of the Committee on Foreign and European Affairs, Cooperation, External Trade and the Greater Region. The delegation also included Tania Tennina, Head of the European Relations Department at the Chamber; Yann Gerges, Deputy Head of the European Relations Department at the Chamber; and Fabiola Cavallini, from the Public Relations Department. His Excellency Jean-Claude Kugener, Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to Canada, also accompanied the delegation during its visit.

In Ottawa, the delegation met with:

• The Honourable Raymonde Gagné, C.M., O.M., Speaker of the Senate;
• The Honourable Francis Scarpaleggia, M.P., Speaker of the House of Commons;
• The Honourable Ahmed Hussen, P.C., M.P., Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development, and other members of the committee;
• Charles Sousa, M.P., Chair of the Standing Committee on National Defence, and other members of the committee; and
• Marie-France Lalonde, M.P., Chair of the Canadian Branch of the Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie, and other members of the branch.

In Quebec City, the delegation met with:

• The Honourable Manon Jeannotte, Lieutenant Governor of Quebec;
• Nathalie Roy, President of the National Assembly of Quebec; and
• Christopher Skeete, Minister of International Relations and La Francophonie.

In addition, the delegation and several members of the National Assembly of Quebec took part in two working sessions: the first focused on Quebec’s economic partnerships and the impacts of the current economic war, and the second on collegiality at the National Assembly.

The objectives of this visit were to strengthen bilateral relations and deepen institutional ties between the parliaments of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and Canada, while fostering dialogue on key areas of mutual interest. Discussions covered topics such as the Francophonie, economic cooperation between the two countries and current international issues, including Canada’s relations with the European Union and the United States as well as global security challenges.
