On June 19, 2014, the bill was adopted at second reading in the Senate and referred to the Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs.

On September 16, 2014, the Speaker of the Senate tabled a letter from the Speaker of the House of Commons concerning an administrative error in the parchment of Bill C-479 sent to the Senate on June 4, 2014.—Senate Sessional Paper no. 2/41-734S.

On September 25, 2014, the following motion was adopted by the Senate :

That Bill C-479, An Act to amend the Corrections and Conditional Release Act (fairness for victims), be withdrawn from the Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs and that all proceedings on the bill to date be declared null and void.
