Coming Into Force
This Act comes into force on the day that, in the sixth month after the month in which it receives royal assent, has the same calendar number as the day on which it receives royal assent?—?or, if that sixth month has no day with that number, the last day of that sixth month?—?unless, before then, the Chief Electoral Officer publishes a notice in the Canada Gazette that the necessary preparations for the bringing into operation of this Act, or of a specified provision of this Act, have been made and that this Act or the specified provision may come into force accordingly, in which case this Act or the provision, as the case may be, comes into force on the day on which the notice is published.

The information on this page is current as of   August 5, 2020

The coming into force provisions in LEGISinfo are excerpted from the text of the bill as introduced and given first reading. The information is not updated to reflect amendments made to bills during the legislative process. Where an Act comes into force on a day or days to be fixed by order of the Governor in Council, additional dates of commencement are added once an order is issued. Where an Act or a provision thereof is silent as to its commencement, it comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.
