Visit to Canada of Her Excellency Dato’ Sri Azalina Othman Said, Minister of the Department of the Prime Minister, and a Parliamentary Delegation

From May 10 to 11, 2016, Her Excellency Dato’ Sri Azalina Othman Said, Minister in the Department of the Prime Minister, paid a visit to Ottawa at the invitation of the Honourable Geoff Regan, P.C., M.P., Speaker of the House of Commons. The delegation included the Honourable Datuk Dr. Ronald Kiandee, Vice-President of the House of Representatives of Malaysia, Her Excellency Dato’ Amnahtun Karim, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Canada, accompanied the delegation.

In Ottawa, the delegation met with the following people:

  • The Honourable George J. Furey, Q.C., Speaker of the Senate;
  • The Honourable Geoff Regan, M.P., P.C., Speaker of the House of Commons;
  • Ms. Marilyn Gladu, M.P., Chair of the House of Commons Standing Committee on the Status of Women, and Committee members;
  • The Honourable Victor Oh, Senator, Chair of the Canada Malaysia Parliamentary Friendship Group, and group members.

The visit helped strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries and parliaments. The discussions concerned matters of common interest, including the committee system in the Parliament of Canada, bilateral relations; parliamentary life and a number of issues related to parliamentary governance, procedure and administration.
