Préambule
Attendu :
que plus de 500 000 Sikhs vivent au Canada, ce qui constitue la deuxième population sikhe en importance dans le monde;
que le Parlement du Canada reconnaît la contribution significative des Canadiens sikhs au patrimoine social, économique, politique et culturel du pays ainsi que la richesse de la langue et de la culture pendjabi et de l’alphabet gurmukhi;
que le mois d’avril revêt une importance particulière pour la communauté sikhe du monde entier;
que, en désignant le mois d’avril comme Mois du patrimoine sikh, le Parlement du Canada favoriserait la réflexion sur le rôle inspirant que les Canadiens sikhs ont joué et continuent de jouer partout au Canada, permettrait de célébrer ce rôle et d’en transmettre l’importance aux générations à venir,
Preamble
Whereas the Sikh population in Canada is in excess of 500,000 people, making it the second-largest Sikh population in the world;
Whereas the Parliament of Canada recognizes the significant contributions that Sikh Canadians have made to Canada’s social, economic, political and cultural fabric, as well as the richness of the Punjabi language and culture and the Gurmukhi script;
Whereas the month of April is meaningful for the Sikh community around the world;
And whereas, by designating the month of April as Sikh Heritage Month, the Parliament of Canada would provide an opportunity to reflect on, celebrate and educate future generations about the inspirational role that Sikh Canadians have played and continue to play in communities across the country;
