CANADIAN SECTION OF THE CANADA–U.S. IPG COMMENTS ON THE SHOOTING ATTACK ON REPUBLICANS ON JUNE 14TH

Today, the Honourable Michael L. MacDonald, senator and the Honourable Wayne Easter, P.C., M.P., Co-Chairs of the Canadian Section of the Canada–United States Inter-Parliamentary Group (IPG), released the following statement on behalf of the Canadian Section’s members.

“Members of the Canadian Section of the IPG were among the Canadians who were deeply concerned to hear about the shooting attack on Republican members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives in Virginia on June 14th,” said Senator MacDonald. “Of course, we wish all of those injured in, or otherwise affected by, the attack a very speedy recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and with their families at this challenging time.”

Mr. Easter concluded: “The United States has no closer friend, partner or ally than Canada, and the IPG’s Canadian Section hopes that U.S. authorities know that Canada stands ready to provide its support to them as their investigation progresses. As assaults on legislators around the world continue, it is important to recognize that such assaults are an attack on the democratic ideals that guide countries such as ours. I too hope that everyone affected has a speedy recovery.”
