Préambule
Attendu :
que, le 1er septembre 1864, les chefs des gouvernements et des législatures de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard, de la Nouvelle-Écosse, du Nouveau-Brunswick et de la province du Canada se sont réunis à Charlottetown, à l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard, où ils ont donné le jour à leur vision commune d’unir les colonies britanniques d’Amérique du Nord et de créer un nouveau pays;
que les aspirations et les idéaux nés et cultivés à la Conférence de Charlottetown constituent le fondement de la nation canadienne;
que le riche patrimoine de Charlottetown a été mis en évidence par la désignation de Province House, l’édifice où se sont tenues les discussions, comme lieu historique national et la désignation d’autres endroits dans la ville comme lieux historiques nationaux en raison de leurs forts liens avec la naissance du pays;
que, le 1er septembre 1996, par une proclamation du premier ministre du Canada, le rôle de Charlottetown a été reconnu et celle-ci a été désignée comme berceau de la Confédération et partie intégrante du patrimoine canadien;
que le 1er septembre 2014 a marqué le 150e anniversaire de la Conférence de Charlottetown et de la naissance de la Confédération,
Preamble
Whereas on September 1, 1864, leaders of the governments and legislatures of Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and the Province of Canada met in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and created a shared vision of a union of the British North American colonies and the creation of a new country;
Whereas the ambitions and ideals that flourished at, and grew out of, the Charlottetown Conference are the basis of the nation of Canada;
Whereas the rich heritage of Charlottetown is reflec-ted in the recognition of Province House, where the discussions took place, as a national historic site and the recognition of other national historic sites in Charlottetown in view of their strong associations with the birth of this country;
Whereas, by Proclamation of the Prime Minister of Canada, on September 1, 1996, the role of Charlottetown was recognized and affirmed as the birthplace of Confederation and an integral part of our Canadian heritage;
And whereas September 1, 2014, marked the 150th anniversary of the Charlottetown Conference and the birth of Confederation;

Now, therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
