An Act to amend the Canada Elections Act (home voting for seniors)
2000, c. 9
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
1. The Canada Elections Act is amended by adding the following after section 243.1:
Voting at home by seniors
243.2 (1) On application of an elector who is 65 years of age or older, the designated election officer shall go to the elector’s dwelling place, provide the elector with a ballot and wait for the ballot to be completed by the elector.
Assistance
(2) If requested by the elector, the designated election officer shall, in the presence of a witness who is chosen by the elector, assist the elector by
(a) completing the declaration on the outer envelope and writing the elector’s name where the elector’s signature is to be written; and
(b) marking the ballot as directed by the elector in the elector’s presence.
Note on outer envelope
(3) The election officer and the witness who assist an elector under subsection (2) shall indicate, by signing the note on the outer envelope, that the elector was assisted.
