An Act respecting the labelling of food products containing sodium
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
SHORT TITLE
Short title
1. This Act may be cited as the Labelling of Food Products Containing Sodium Act.
INTERPRETATION
Definition of “Minister”
2. In this Act, “Minister” means the Minister of Health.
REGULATIONS
Regulations
3. Despite anything in the Food and Drugs Act or the regulations made under that Act, the Minister shall, within one year after the day on which this Act comes into force, make regulations requiring that the label of a food product containing sodium indicate the sodium content per serving expressed both in milligrams and as a percentage of the Department of Health’s recommended Adequate Intake (AI).
