SUMMARY
This enactment designates the week of August 1 to 7 in every year as “Williams Syndrome Awareness Week”.

An Act respecting Williams Syndrome Awareness Week
Whereas Williams Syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that is caused by a chromosomal abnormality;
Whereas it is a randomly occurring non-hereditary condition that affects brain development and may result in physical infirmity;
And whereas designating a week to reflect upon this condition and its impact on individ- uals would raise awareness of the condition, advance education and research on this condition and encourage the integration into society of those afflicted by it;
Now, Therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
SHORT TITLE
Short title
1. This Act may be cited as the Williams Syndrome Awareness Week Act.
WILLIAMS SYNDROME AWARENESS WEEK
Williams Syndrome Awareness Week
2. Throughout Canada, in each and every year, the week of August 1 to 7 shall be known as “Williams Syndrome Awareness Week”.
