An Act to amend the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 and respecting the On-Road Vehicle and Engine Emission Regulations (emissions labelling for vehicles)
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

CANADIAN ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION ACT, 1999
1. Subsection 153(1) of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 is amended by adding the following after paragraph (d):
(d.1) in the case of a vehicle, a clearly visible label conforming to the prescribed requirements that sets out, in both official languages, the amount in grams of carbon dioxide emitted by the vehicle per kilometre — in both highway and city use — is displayed on the vehicle in accordance with the regulations;
2. Section 154 of the Act is replaced by the following:
Compliance on importation
154. No person shall import any vehicle, engine or equipment of a prescribed class unless the requirements of paragraphs 153(1)(a), (b),(d), (d.1) and (e) are met in respect of the vehicle, engine or equipment.

Amendments to the On-Road Vehicle and Engine Emission Regulations
3. The Governor in Council shall, within 60 days after this Act comes into force,
(a) make the regulations referred to in paragraph 153(1)(d.1) of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999, as enacted by section 1; and
(b) amend section 2 of the On-Road Vehicle and Engine Emission Regulations to include the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions as part of the purpose of those Regulations.
