SUMMARY
This enactment amends the Criminal Code to provide for criminal sanctions for the perpetrators of assaults against mass transit operators.

An Act to amend the Criminal Code (mass transit operators)
R.S., c. C-46
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
1. (1) Subsection 270(1) of the Criminal Code is amended by striking out the word “or” at the end of paragraph (b), by adding the word “or” at the end of paragraph (c) and by adding the following after paragraph (c):
(d) assaults a mass transit operator engaged in the execution of his or her duty.
(2) Section 270 of the Act is amended by adding the following after subsection (2):
Definition of “mass transit operator”
(3) For the purposes of this section, “mass transit operator” means a person who drives a subway car, rail transit car, light rail car, bus, streetcar or ferry.
