SUMMARY
This enactment amends the Criminal Code to repeal section 745.6 of that Act (often referred to as the “faint hope clause”), which allows a person sentenced to life imprisonment for high treason or murder to apply, after 15 years, for a reduction in the period of parole ineligibility.
The enactment also makes related amendments to the Criminal Code, and amends certain other Acts in consequence.

Le texte modifie le Code criminel afin d’y abroger l’article 745.6 (fréquemment appelé « clause de la dernière chance »), qui permet au contrevenant condamné à l’emprisonnement à perpétuité pour haute trahison ou meurtre de demander, après avoir purgé quinze ans de sa peine, une réduction du délai d’inadmissibilité préalable à sa libération conditionnelle.
Il apporte aussi des modifications connexes au Code criminel et des modifications corrélatives à d’autres lois.
