An Act respecting a Tartan Day
WHEREAS Canadians of Scottish descent have played an influential role in the development of Canada and have contributed immensely to the arts, the sciences, politics, law, and other fields;
WHEREAS over four million Canadians claim Scottish roots, thereby constituting the fifth largest ethnic group in Canada;
AND WHEREAS Tartan Day has been proclaimed in each of the provinces of Canada;
NOW, THEREFORE, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
SHORT TITLE
Short title
1. This Act may be cited as the Tartan Day Act.
TARTAN DAY
Tartan Day
2. Throughout Canada, in each and every year, the sixth day of April shall be known as “Tartan Day”.
Not a legal holiday
3. For greater certainty, Tartan Day is not a legal holiday or a non-juridical day.
