An Act to amend the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal Act (Book of Remembrance for peacekeepers)

      Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

1. The long title of the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal Act is replaced by the following:

An Act respecting the establishment and award of a Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal for Canadians who have served with an international peacekeeping mission and the establishment of a Book of Remembrance for Canadians who died during an international peacekeeping mission

2. Section 1 of the Act is replaced by the following:

Short title

1. This Act may be cited as the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal and Memorial Act.

3. Section 3 of the Act is replaced by the following:

Design of Medal and Book of Remembrance

3. The Governor in Council may determine the design of the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal and its associated ribbon and the Book of Remembrance .

4. The Act is amended by adding the following after section 7:

Creation of Book of Remembrance

7.1 The Minister shall

    (a) prepare a list of Canadians who die during an international peacekeeping mission;

    (b) record their names in a Book of Remembrance; and

    (c) cause the Book of Remembrance to be located in the Memorial Chamber of the Peace Tower on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.

5. Section 9 of the Act is replaced by the following:

Prerogative not affected

9. Nothing in this Act limits the right of the Governor General to exercise all powers and authorities of Her Majesty in respect of the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal or Book of Remembrance .

Coming into force

6. This Act comes into force three months after the day on which it receives royal assent.
