SUMMARY

This enactment ensures that, if a province has a law providing for the expression of the opinion of the electors on who should be summoned to the Senate to fill a vacancy, no person shall be summoned to fill the vacancy unless the electors' opinion has been sought and the results transmitted to the Privy Council, or unless a year has passed after the vacancy was published in the Canada Gazette.
