SUMMARY

This enactment amends section 3 of the Broadcasting Act by providing, in the context of the broadcasting policy, that a cable distributor should not, except in the cases described in this section, demand money from a person for the provision or sale of a non-mandatory pay or specialty programming service without the express prior consent of the purchaser of the service.

Section 5 of the Act creates an obligation for the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission to regulate and supervise all aspects of the Canadian broadcasting system with a view to implementing the broadcasting policy set out in the Act.
