REFERENCES

References to Minister of Communica-
tions

43. The following provisions are amended by replacing the expression ``the Minister of Communications'' with the expression ``such member of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada as is designated by the Governor in Council as the Minister for the purposes of this Act``:

    (a) the definition ``Minister'' in subsection 2(1) of the Broadcasting Act; and

    (b) the definition ``Minister'' in section 2 of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission Act.

References to Secretary of State of Canada

44. The following provisions are amended by replacing the expression ``the Secretary of State of Canada'' with the expression ``such member of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada as is designated by the Governor in Council for the purpose of this section``:

    (a) section 31 of the Corrupt Practices Inquiries Act;

    (b) sections 21 to 25 and 27 of the Disfranchising Act;

    (c) section 95 of the Dominion Controverted Elections Act; and

    (d) section 281 of the National Defence Act.

Other references

45. The following provisions are amended by replacing the expression ``official of the Department of Communications'' with the expression ``official of the Department of Canadian Heritage``:

    (a) subsection 33(2) of the Cultural Property Export and Import Act; and

    (b) subparagraph 241(4)(d)(xii) of the Income Tax Act.

Other references

46. Every reference made to the Minister of Communications, the Minister of Multiculturalism and Citizenship and the Secretary of State of Canada in relation to any matter to which the powers, duties and functions of the Minister of Canadian Heritage extend by virtue of this Act, in any other Act of Parliament or in any order, regulation or other instrument made under any Act of Parliament shall, unless the context otherwise requires, be read as a reference to the Minister of Canadian Heritage.

References to Department of Communicati ons, Department of Multiculturali sm and Citizenship or Department of the Secretary of State of Canada

47. Every reference made to the Department of Communications, the Department of Multiculturalism and Citizenship or the Department of the Secretary of State of Canada, in relation to any matter to which the powers, duties and functions of the Minister of Canadian Heritage extend by virtue of this Act, in any other Act of Parliament or in any order, regulation or other instrument made under any Act of Parliament shall, unless the context otherwise requires, be read as a reference to the Department of Canadian Heritage.

REPEALS

Repeal of R.S., c. c-35

48. The Department of Communications Act is repealed.

Repeal

49. The Department of Multiculturalism and Citizenship Act, chapter 3 of the Statutes of Canada, 1991, is repealed.

COMING INTO FORCE

Coming into force

50. This Act or any provision of this Act or any provision of any Act amended by this Act comes into force on a day or days to be fixed by order of the Governor in Council.
