The Subcommittee on the Review of Parliament’s involvement with Associations and Recognized Interparliamentary Groups of the Joint Interparliamentary Council met this day in camera at 2:05 p.m., in a hybrid format, Lianne Rood, M.P., presiding.

Representing the Senate: Hon. Percy Downe and Hon. Raymonde Saint-Germain.

Representing the House of Commons: Francis Drouin for Ruby Sahota, Marilène Gill, Lindsay Mathyssen, Lianne Rood and Ruby Sahota.

1. Adoption of minutes:

It was agreed, – That the minutes of the meeting of October 7, 2022, be adopted.


2. Roundtable discussion:

The Subcommittee met with representatives of the interparliamentary groups to discuss the appropriateness of the current mandates and structures of parliamentary associations and interparliamentary groups, and ways of increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of activities.


3. Meeting with representatives of groups seeking to be recognized by the Council:

Pursuant to the order of the Council of May 20, 2022, the Subcommittee met with Yvan Baker, Hon. Yonah Martin, Soraya Martinez Ferrada, Brad Vis and Hon. Yuen Pau Woo to consider requests for the creation of new parliamentary associations and interparliamentary groups.


4. Meeting with representatives of the International and Interparliamentary Affairs Directorate and the Library of Parliament:

The Subcommittee met with Jeremy LeBlanc, Heather Lank and Marcus Pistor to discuss the support provided to parliamentary associations by the International and Interparliamentary Affairs Directorate and the Library of Parliament.


5. Subcommittee business:

It was agreed, – That the analysts prepare a summary of evidence for the Subcommittee’s consideration at the next meeting.


At 3:50 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Co-Chairs.
