June 27, 2022


The Subcommittee on the Review of Parliament’s Involvement with Associations and Recognized Interparliamentary Groups of the Joint Interparliamentary Council met this day in camera at 11:03 a.m., in a virtual format, Lianne Rood, M.P., presiding.

Representing the Senate: Hon. Dennis Dawson, Hon. Percy E. Downe and Hon. Raymonde Saint-Germain.

Representing the House of Commons: Marilène Gill, Lindsay Mathyssen, Lianne Rood and Ruby Sahota.

Hon. Salma Ataullahjan, Senator, former member of the Bureau of Women Parliamentarians of the IPU; Hon. Patricia Bovey, Senator, Liaison of the Progressive Senate Group.

1. Adoption of minutes:

It was agreed – That the minutes of the meeting of May 27, 2022, be adopted.


2.  Roundtable discussion:

The Subcommittee met with the Whips and Liaisons of the recognized parties and parliamentary groups to discuss the themes of representation and association constitutions.


3.  Roundtable discussion:

The Subcommittee met with Hon. Salma Ataullahjan, former member of the IPU’s Bureau of Women Parliamentarians, to discuss the theme of representation.


4.Subcommittee business:

The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.

It was agreed – That the Clerk contact members regarding their availability for the next meeting and that the analysts prepare a summary of evidence for the Subcommittee’s consideration.


At 12:45 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Co-Chairs.
