CANADIAN PARLIAMENTARIANS ATTEND CSG NATIONAL CONFERENCE

From 4–7 December 2019, Senator Jane Cordy, Vice-Chair of the Canadian Section of the Canada–United States Inter-Parliamentary Group (IPG), led a delegation to the national conference of the Council of State Governments (CSG), which was held in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Other members of the delegation were Senators Leo Housakos and Jim Munson.

“Many of the topics covered have relevance for both Canada and the United States. The sessions that were held during the conference provided us with valuable insights to guide us in our legislative work,” said Senator Cordy. She added: “This event also allowed us to continue our important relationship with U.S. state legislators as we continue to look for ways in which to work together for the benefit of citizens and businesses in both countries.”

The CSG was founded in 1933 as a forum that fosters the exchange of ideas in order to help state officials shape public policy. Its mission is to champion “excellence in state governments to advance the common good.”

The views expressed in this news release are specific to the Canadian Section of the Canada–United States IPG.

The Canada–United States IPG aims to find points of convergence in respective national policies, to initiate dialogue on points of divergence, to encourage the exchange of information and to promote better understanding among legislators on shared issues of concern.
