Executive Committee Members for the ParlAmericas Canadian Section
elected at the Annual General Meeting
OTTAWA – February 28, 2019 – The Canadian Section of ParlAmericas held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in the newly renovated West Block, on February 19, 2019. At the AGM, parliamentarians who are members of the Canadian Section elected the Executive Committee’s members for fiscal year 2019-2020. The Executive Committee plans and directs the Canadian Section’s work.
At the meeting, the Honourable Bob Nault, P.C., M.P., was re-elected as Chair of the Canadian Section for a fourth term. Since September 2018, he has also served as President of ParlAmericas.
“The work of parliamentary associations – of which the Canadian Section of ParlAmericas is a leading example – is crucially important but often understated,” said Mr. Nault. “Discussions with our parliamentary colleagues in other countries enable us to exchange ideas, explore options and share best practices as we legislate on behalf of the people we represent.”
Joining Mr. Nault on the Canadian Section’s Executive Committee are: Mr. Randy Boissonnault, M.P. and the Honourable Rosa Galvez, Senator as Vice-Chairs; and the Honourable Percy E. Downe, Senator, Ms. Julie Dzerowicz, M.P., Ms. Stephanie Kusie, M.P., the Honourable Michael L. MacDonald, Senator, Mr. Anthony Rota, M.P., Mr. Larry Maguire, M.P., the Honourable Raymonde Saint-Germain, Senator; Ms. Brigitte Sansoucy, M.P. and the Honourable Judy Sgro, P.C., M.P.
Founded in 2001 in Ottawa, ParlAmericas is the only interparliamentary institution with its International Secretariat headquartered in Canada. The Canadian Section of ParlAmericas works closely with the Secretariat to advance parliamentary diplomacy and political dialogue throughout the Americas and the Caribbean.
