Canadian parliamentarians meet with Cabinet members of Mexico’s next government

OTTAWA - On Monday, October 22nd, 2018, the Honourable Bob Nault, P.C., M.P., President of ParlAmericas International and Chair of the Canadian Section of ParlAmericas, led Canadian parliamentarians in a meeting with a delegation of Secretaries-designates from Mexico.

The Secretaries-designates will assume their cabinet positions on December 1st, 2018, when President-elect Andrés Manuel López Obrador is inaugurated.

The Mexican delegation comprised the Secretaries-designate for: Foreign Affairs; Finance and Public Credit; Economy; the Environment and Natural Resources; Energy; the Interior; and Agriculture, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food.

“Today’s meeting underscored the strength of both the Canada–Mexico partnership and our relationship with our Mexican colleagues. It also provided us with a unique opportunity to learn about the priorities of Mexico’s incoming government, and to identify ways in which our countries can work together more closely,” said Mr. Nault.

The members of the Canadian Section of ParlAmericas who also attended the meeting with the Mexican delegation were the Honourable Kim Pate, Senator, Mr. William Amos, M.P., Mr. Chandra Arya, M.P., Mr. Randy Boissonnault, M.P., Mr. Kerry Diotte, M.P., Ms. Julie Dzerowicz, M.P., Mr. Randy Hoback, M.P., Ms. Stephanie Kusie, M.P., M.P., Mr. Anthony Rota, M.P., Mr. Marc Serré, M.P, Mr. Ramesh Sangha, M.P., and Mr. Francesco Sorbara, M.P., The delegation was also joined by Mr. Pierre Alarie, Canadian Ambassador to Mexico.

“In our discussion today, parliamentarians from all-parties agreed that the ties between Canada and Mexico must be not only maintained, but also reinforced as opportunities present themselves,” said Nault. “We must continue to engage with our hemispheric partners in constructive dialogue.”

Founded 17 years ago in Ottawa, ParlAmericas is the only inter-parliamentary institution with its International Secretariat headquartered in Canada.

Since the beginning, the Canadian Section of ParlAmericas has worked closely with ParlAmericas to further parliamentary diplomacy and political dialogue across the hemisphere.
