CANADIAN PARLIAMENTARIANS MEET WITH MEMBERS OF THE KENTUCKY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

On 15 October 2018, members of the Canadian Section of the Canada–United States Inter-Parliamentary Group (IPG) met with a delegation from the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. The delegation was led by David Adkisson, the Chamber’s President and Chief Executive Officer.

“Meeting with representatives of Kentucky’s private sector enabled members of the IPG’s Canadian Section to discuss various aspects of the relationship between Canada and Kentucky, and between Canada and the United States,” said Senator Yuen Pau Woo, Vice-Chair. “In particular, our discussions focused on the recently concluded United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement, regional trade and the need to work together to bring about an end to U.S. tariffs on certain Canadian steel and aluminium products.”

Mr. John McKay, Vice-Chair, concluded: “Like many U.S. states, Kentucky is a valued trading partner for Canada. The state exports more merchandise to Canada than it does to the United Kingdom and France – its next two largest international export destinations – combined, and an estimated 112,600 jobs in the state depend on trade and investment with our country. I think it goes without saying that we welcome conversations that will enhance this relationship.”

The Kentucky Chamber of Commerce seeks to support a prosperous business climate through advocacy, information, program management and customer service. The Chamber represents approximately 3,800 businesses that employ more than 50% of the state’s workforce.

The views expressed in this news release are specific to the Canadian Section of the Canada–United States IPG. For this reason, they may not reflect the views of U.S. counterparts.

The Canada–United States IPG aims to find points of convergence in respective national policies, to initiate dialogue on points of divergence, to encourage the exchange of information and to promote better understanding among legislators on shared issues of concern.
