CANADIAN SENATOR ATTENDS 42nd ANNUAL MEETING OF NEW ENGLAND GOVERNORS AND EASTERN CANADIAN PREMIERS

From 12–14 August 2018, Senator Diane Griffin, Vice-Chair, represented the Canadian Section of the Canada–United States Inter-Parliamentary Group at the 42nd Annual Conference of New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers (NEG/ECP) in Stowe, Vermont.

“I was very pleased to be invited to attend the annual conference of New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers. As is always the case, the discussions focused on issues of importance to the eastern region in both Canada and the United States. This year, the topics included the North American Free Trade Agreement, renewable energy and electric vehicles,” said Senator Griffin.

Senator Griffin concluded: “Certainly, this conference provides the premiers and governors with an opportunity to address common issues of concern, to exchange information on a range of topics of shared bilateral interest, and to identify areas for collaboration and partnerships among the provinces and states in the NEG/ECP.”

Established in 1973, the Conference of New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers is an inter-regional, bi-national organization of 11 jurisdictions: six New England states – Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont – and five Eastern Canadian provinces – New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Quebec. The governors and premiers meet to address issues of shared concern and to cooperate in a variety of areas.

The views expressed in this news release are specific to the Canadian Section of the Canada–United States IPG. As such, they may not reflect the views of U.S. counterparts.

The Canada–United States IPG aims to find points of convergence in respective national policies, to initiate dialogue on points of divergence, to encourage the exchange of information and to promote better understanding among legislators on shared issues of concern.
