Senator KUTCHER4412331SUMMARYThis enactment designates the month of September as "Ukrainian Heritage Month".PreambleWhereas today Canada is home to more than 1.3 million Ukrainian-Canadians;Whereas the first recorded arrival of Ukrainians to Canada took place in the month of September over 125 years ago;Whereas the people of Canada and the people of Ukraine share strong bonds of friendship and commitment to the universal values of human rights, democracy and respect for international law;Whereas Parliament recognizes the significant contributions that Ukrainian-Canadians have made and continue to make to Canada’s social, economic, political and cultural fabric, including artistic, linguistic, culinary, religious and folkloric contributions;And whereas, by designating the month of September as Ukrainian Heritage Month, Parliament would provide an opportunity to remember, celebrate and educate future generations about the impactful role that Ukrainian-Canadians have played and continue to play in communities across the country;Now, therefore, His Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:Short TitleShort titleThis Act may be cited as the Ukrainian Heritage Month Act.Ukrainian Heritage MonthUkrainian Heritage MonthThroughout Canada, in each and every year, the month of September is to be known as “Ukrainian Heritage Month”.
